The National Federation of State Poetry Societies (NFSPS) is sponsoring the second annual national championship slam poetry competition in Des Moines, Iowa June 21-26, at the West Des Moines Marriott in West Des Moines.
Competitors are expected from across the country and will be limited to 40 of the top spoken word poets. Slam entrants will also have the opportunity to experience NFSPS Convention events that are not related to the slam competition.
Mississippi Poetry Society, Inc., is interested in choosing one adult, a Mississippi resident at this time, to compete in Des Moines in June and will pay $350 towards that individual’s trip expenses, including lodging, travel and meals.
A poetry slam is a competitive art event in which poets perform spoken word poetry (poetry written with oral performance in mind) before a live audience and a panel of judges.
The guidelines are rather detailed. For all information on performance requirements, schedule of events in Des Moines, prizes, and expenses, please contact Janice Canerdy, MPS President, as soon as possible at jlcanerdy@yahoo.com.
