The Mississippi Education Policy Fellowship (MS-EPF) is a professional development program that provides emerging leaders with the knowledge and networks to advance education policy. This program is a critical resource for individuals, organizations, and the state to increase knowledge about education policy and linkages between policy and practice.
The mission of the Mississippi Ed Policy Fellowship is to develop leaders in public and private organizations who have the capacity to improve outcomes for children and youth. Over a nine-month commitment, MS-EPF participants develop a greater understanding of local, state, and national education policy contexts, build skills for advocacy, develop connections with education leaders from across Mississippi, and become stronger leaders for education. MS-EPF participants remain in their full-time positions and use their work environment as the context for examining important policy issues in Mississippi. Throughout this year-long program participants will learn about and discuss education policy with respected policymakers from across the state and nation. Major program components consist of:
- Four in-person sessions in Jackson, MS in September, October, November, and January.
- Two virtual sessions in December and March.
- The Federal Policy Experience, an in-person convening in Washington DC, including learning sessions with federal policy advocates and visits with legislators.
- Policy Project Presentations, our culminating graduation experience giving MS-EPF participants an opportunity to present policy recommendations to colleagues, peers, and other advocates, to be held in person in Jackson in March 2026.
