  • Biden-Harris Transition Team Announced: This week, the Biden-Harris Transition Team announced agency review teams, including for the U.S. Department of Education.  USED’s Agency Review Team is being led by Linda Darling-Hammond of the Learning Policy Institute (notably, Darling-Hammond also lead the Obama-Biden Transition Team USED Agency Review Team in 2008). Members of the team include recent Pennsylvania state chief and CCSSO Board President, Pedro Rivera, AFT and NEA staff, and former Obama Administration USED staff. The full list for all federal agency review teams is available here: buildbackbetter.com/the-transition/agency-review-teams/. The CCSSO Advocacy team has already established contact with the team and we are working to confirm a conversation between a Transition Team member and chiefs.
  • National ESEA Conference: The Office of Elementary and Secondary Education’s (OESE’s) Office of State Grant and Program Support (OSGPS) will host the National ESEA Conference (formerly the National Title I Conference) on February 8-11, 2021. This conference annually welcomes thousands of K-12 educators from across the country. Participants include state agency officials, school district administrators, school building leaders, and teachers. This year’s theme, “Educating for Tomorrow,” creates a singular focus for all attendees on the unique needs of disadvantaged students and the ability to centralize services across all ESEA programs. Also, this year’s conference is virtual so more SEA staff that might not otherwise be able to attend can participate in this important professional learning opportunity.  Conference details, including registration materials, are available at https://www.eseanetwork.org/conference.If you have questions about the conference, please contact Bob Harmon, CEO of the National Association of ESEA State Program Administrators (NAESPA), at bob.harmon@eseanetwork.org or 800-256-6452.
