Advanced Word Study Resource

The Office of Elementary Education and Reading, Division of Literacy has developed an Advanced Word Study Resource created to support the accelerated learning of multi-syllabic word reading and morphology particularly for students in grades 3-5. The goal for this resource is for students to receive accelerated advanced phonics instruction that may benefit them as they transition from “learning to read” to “reading to learn”.

This resource includes six weeks of explicit advanced phonics lessons, including speed drills and center activities to support adequate practice with each skill. The resource also includes a guidance power-point for how to best use the materials and a sample virtual model lesson.

Note: These lessons are not intended to supplant a core phonics curriculum.  To access this resource visit: www.mdek12.org/literacy  > Updates for 2020-21 School Year.
