MSMS TO LAUNCH FREE K-12 ONLINE ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

All K-12 students and teachers are invited to participate in The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science’ free online enrichment program, Full STEAM Ahead.

Designed by MSMS faculty and students, this program will feature weekly and monthly virtual STEM and fine arts-related activities for students and their parents as well as teachers and their classrooms to participate in.

The first program activity, Weekly Wednesday Workout, will launch Sept. 16 at 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. via Zoom. During this live activity session, MSMS students will lead participants through mathematical problem sets based on their grade level standards.  Students can register to participate individually, or teachers can register their entire class for this enrichment experience.

During each 25-minute session, students will be divided into one of three groups based on grade levels:  1st & 2nd grade, 3rd & 4th grade, or 5th & 6th grade.  Later this semester, 7th & 8th grade will be added to the Weekly Wednesday Workout. To register, visit themsms.org/programs-camps/online.

“Because so many kids are at home learning or in the classroom social distancing from others, we wanted to be able to offer an array of engaging, online experiences for any student, parent or teacher who is interested,” said Lauren Zarandona, MSMS Outreach Director. “Through these online activity sessions, we can create a community of problem-solvers over Zoom!”

As the school year progresses, Zarandona, along with her student helpers, plans to introduce additional virtual activities students can register for in the future.
