The MDE has received several questions from districts about the current MOCA review process. MDE staff are working on revisions to State Board Policy Rule 56.1 to provide districts the flexibility to offer existing courses taught by a district-employed classroom teacher in an online delivery model without the need for MOCA approval. It is not necessary to submit such courses for review at this time if a district is planning to use district-employed certified teachers to deliver online instruction to students. Such courses would be reviewed in the same fashion as other face-to-face courses within the district (principal observation, lesson plan review, etc.). For such courses, we anticipate that existing course codes will be used.
