Gov. Reeves Declares State of Emergency, Asks Schools to Close Through March 20

March 14, 2020: Gov. Tate Reeves has declared a state of emergency for Mississippi and asked that school districts extend their spring break until March 20.

State law gives the Mississippi State Board of Education the flexibility to waive the requirement that schools operate for 180 days.

Districts must report school closures immediately to MDE by emailing mdeschoolclosures@mdek12.org.

Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) staff will be working at home through March 20 and will remain available to districts via email.
