The Mississippi Department of Education is partnering with the South Panola School District to offer free regional trainings on the MS CCRS for Science. Three individual sessions will be provided to teachers of grades 5 and 8 as well as biology. These sessions will include an introduction of the 2018 Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards for Science. An overview of the organization of the standards with an explanation of the new components used in the writing of the document will be included as teachers compare the previous framework with the new state standards. In addition, an in-depth approach to interpreting the MS CCRS for Science will allow teachers to explore new performance objectives along with the science and engineering practices. Teachers will view a model lesson to gain knowledge of how to develop other lessons using the 5 E lesson plan model while incorporating the new standards. CEUs will be available.
