The Mississippi Department of Education’s Division of Intervention Services and Gifted announces the MTSS 20-day report functionality in MSIS 2.0 will not be available until late September. Therefore, local education agencies (LEAs) (specifically principals, curriculum directors and interventionists) should follow the criteria listed below to identify students who would generally populate the MSIS 20-day screen.
Once those students have been identified, school teams should conduct their teacher support team meetings within 20 school days to determine the appropriate tier placement. LEAs should use the MTSS documentation to record meetings and to develop interventions for each student identified as needing tier II or tier III interventions.
There are specific forms in the Multi-Tiered System of Supports Documentation Packet that should be used to complete this process.
Criteria used to identify 20-day students:
- (K-3) A student who failed one grade.
- (4-12) A student who failed two grades.
- A student who failed either of the two grades and suspended or expelled for more than 20 days in the current school year.
- A student who scores at the lowest level on any part of the Grade 3 or 7 state assessment
- A student promoted from grades 3 to 4 under a good-cause exemption of the Literacy Based Promotion Act
