If so, make plans to attend the annual State Vision Conference, Mississippi AER (MAER) Sept. 19-21 to learn how to support their assistive technology needs and provide accessibility. The 2024 Mississippi Association for the Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (MAER) Conference focuses on Inclusive Horizons: Navigating Assistive Technology and Accessibility Sept. 19–21 at the USM Gulf Coast Research Lab, Marine Education Center in Ocean Springs.
Keynote Speaker: Sam Seavey, founder of The Blind Life YouTube channel, is an expert in assistive technology. Sam will share insights from his extensive experience and research in the field.
Conference Highlights:
- Networking: Foster connections and share experiences to advance accessibility and inclusion.
- Technology Trends: Explore current technologies tailored for the visually impaired.
- Empowerment: Learn to navigate and utilize assistive technologies for greater independence.
- Continuing Education: CEUs are being applied for the following groups: ACVREP, CRCC, Mississippi Educators, and MS Board of Licensure for OT.
Conference Objectives:
- Create a platform for networking and sharing experiences among attendees, fostering a supportive community dedicated to advancing accessibility and inclusion for those with visual impairments.
- Become familiar with those technologies that focus on the needs of the visually impaired community, as well as mitigate some of the technology challenges faced by the visually impaired community.
- Empower people with visual impairments to effectively navigate and utilize assistive technologies to enable greater independence and participation in society.

- AER Members: $150 Early Bird or $165 Regular
- Non-AER Members: $175 Early Bird or $190 Regular
- Special Rates: Free for graduate students studying vision loss, individuals with vision loss, and their families.
