Educators can apply for Freedom Summer: 60 Years Later workshop; Deadline is March 5

Educators across the nation are invited to apply to attend one of two Freedom Summer: 60 Years Later  – A Landmarks Of American History Teacher Workshop to be hosted at the Two Mississippi Museums in Jackson July 8-12, 2024, and July 22-26, 2024. Deadline to apply is March 5, 2024.

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History is partnering with National History Day to coordinate and lead the program. The Freedom Summer: 60 Years Later project has been made possible in part by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities: Landmarks of American History and Culture.

This Landmarks of American History and Culture project will commemorate the 60th anniversary of Freedom Summer, a pivotal event in American history. Seventy educators from across the nation will get to attend one of the two, weeklong workshops. The teachers will also travel to historic Freedom Summer locations throughout the state.
