MIC3 Compact 101 training for schools’ military points of contact is available now through December 2023.
Gov. Tate Reeves directs the Mississippi Department of Education to create and administer the Military Star School Program to recognize schools that maintain a school culture supportive of military children; Executive Order 1561. The Mississippi Military Star School Program recognizes schools that have made a significant commitment to supporting military families and students of service members.
Schools must meet specific requirements designed to support the unique needs facing military students and families. One requirement to qualify for the Mississippi Military Star School Program designation is that a school counselor, teacher, principal, or assistant principal who serves as the School Military Point of Contact (SMPOC) complete training with the MIC3 Compact 101 Training. These trainings are offered virtually through the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission monthly through December 2023. To register go to https://mic3.net/events-calendar/. Applicants should submit a copy of the MIC3 Compact 101 Training certificate as part of their application to become a Military Star School.
Applications for the Mississippi Military Star School Program for the 2024-2025 school year are due Feb. 28, 2024. For more information, contact Wendy Clemons at wclemons@mdek12.org.
