Book study related to the Science of Reading for English Learners planned for fall

The Mississippi Department of Education Office of Elementary Education and Reading announces a book study will begin in the fall of the 2023-2024 school year related to the Science of Reading for English Learners.

The selected book is titled Literacy Foundations for English Learners and is written by Dr. Elsa Cárdenas-Hagan.  Dr. Cárdenas-Hagan is a bilingual speech-language pathologist, a certified teacher, a dyslexia therapist, and a Certified Academic Language Therapist and Qualified Instructor.  She also serves as president of the Valley Speech Language Learning Center in Brownsville, Texas.

The book along with connected online resources and corresponding discussion groups will focus on the science of reading for English learners.  CEUs and SEMIs will be available for participants.  Educators who are interested in participating in this book study are asked to please complete this Microsoft form.
