K-5 statewide literacy professional development courses begin in August for 2022-23 school year

The Mississippi Department of Education is offering AIM Institute for Learning and Research’s Pathways Professional Development courses during the 2022-2023 school year. AIM Pathways professional development will assist teachers and leaders in furthering their ability to apply the Science of Reading, while supporting Mississippi’s mission to prepare students to compete in a global community. AIM Pathways will offer two hybrid courses that are customized for Mississippi teachers and leaders that include asynchronous learning as well as two in-person training sessions with experienced AIM facilitators.

The MDE has worked diligently to build teacher content knowledge of the Science of Reading (SoR) through its statewide literacy professional development training – Language Essentials for Teaching Reading and Spelling (LETRS). AIM’s Pathways to Proficient Reading and Pathways to Literacy Leadership courses continue this training on the SoR and how teachers can apply that learning in the classroom to build strong readers.

Science of Reading Courses:

  • Pathways to Proficient Reading for Teachers will provide educators access to resources for application-based classroom practices to support strong, proficient readers through the Science of Reading. (Designed for K-5 general education teachers and K-8 special education teachers)
  • Pathways for Literacy Leadership will provide educational leaders with tools and resources to create and implement a comprehensive literacy plan for their schools and develop administrators’ understanding of the classroom application of the science of reading. (Designed for educational leaders)
