Update on 3rd-grade Reading Assessment available

The Literacy Based Promotion Act requires all 3rd-grade public school students to pass the 3rd grade Reading Assessment at a level 3 or above to be promoted to the 4th grade.

School districts received initial 3rd Grade Reading Assessment results last week. Parents should have received student score reports and notification of students’ pass/fail status by Monday, May 9.  The distribution of student score reports should follow federal FERPA laws.

Only students whose score report indicated “not met” during the initial assessment window, students who missed the initial assessment window, and students who do not qualify for a good cause exemption, should take the 3rd grade Alternative Assessment during the May 9 -13 testing window. Students who do not pass the alternative assessment will be given a final opportunity to retest during the June 20 – July 8 testing window.
