Miss. Code Ann § 37-3-4(5)(c) requires local school board members and the local superintendent that serve in a district with one (1) or more failing schools as determined by the Mississippi Board of Education accountability system as provided for in Section 37-17-6, or serving in a school district that has a serious financial condition as determined by the State Auditor as provided for in Section 37-9-18, to annually attend additional training provided by the Mississippi School Boards Association (MSBA).
On March 19, 2020, during its regularly scheduled meeting, the State Board of Education granted approval for districts and schools to maintain the same accountability designation in the 2020 – 2021 school year as assigned in the 2019 – 2020 school year with no cumulative impact for cases where multiple years with the same designation may lead to a more severe consequence.
Therefore, school board members and superintendents will not be required to attend the training as a result of the accountability designations assigned in the 2019 – 2020 school year.
