To achieve grade-level reading proficiency, students need systematic foundational skills instruction, exposure to a robust vocabulary, and ample experience with academic content. Best practice for assisting students’ needs to accelerate learning include providing:
· systematic instruction,
· differentiated instruction in the core reading block and
· targeted intensive interventions.
This webinar will provide guidance to schools on the implementation of these strategies within the context of a transition class for kindergarten through 3rd grade students and/or a Grade 3 intensive acceleration class. The accompanying resource, GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS IDENTIFIED WITH A READING DEFICIENCY AND/OR STUDENTS NOT PROMOTED, includes a framework and recommendations to assist educators with providing student support.
