High-Quality Instructional Materials Resources

In the fall of 2017, the MDE adopted a definition for High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) that serves as a framework for Mississippi public schools on the importance of having textbooks, materials, and classroom resources aligned to the MS College- and Career-Readiness Standards in Mathematics. To accompany this new charge, the MDE, in partnership with EdReports®, developed a set of rigorous rubrics that include key indicators and criteria  for the identification and selection of HQIM for K-8 and High School Mathematics.  All current state-adopted textbooks for Mathematics were evaluated using the aforementioned rubrics. Additional resources have been developed over the last few years to support all stakeholders in their quest to provide HQIMs at the local level, as well.

These resources are in the form of a pre-recorded webinar that explains how the rubric can be used, a Curriculum Support Guide,  and a new website to support educators in their understanding of the HQIM selection process.

The MDE is working on the review of English Language Arts materials at this time, with an adoption slated for the spring and materials available in July of 2021.
