The Mississippi Board of Education (SBE) has advertised for and received sealed bids for the sale of school buses as a complete unit to school districts of Mississippi. Bids were accepted on Type A-I school buses, Type A-2 school buses as complete units, Type C school bus bodies, Type C school buses as complete units, Type D school buses, and 29 items of optional equipment. A list of equipment and prices approved by the SBE, along with approved firms for the respective equipment is enclosed. The equipment listed therein may be purchased only from the approved companies. Please note that all dealers are not approved to sell all equipment (“X” indicates companies approved to sell equipment). These prices reflect total cost, including freight, and shall be effective through September 30, 2019.

Local School Boards are hereby authorized to advertise for and accept the lowest and the best bid received for the purchase of school bus chassis and/or pupil transportation service vehicles. Mississippi Code Annotated § 37-41-101, school bus chassis and/or pupil transportation service vehicles may be purchased from any motor vehicle dealer domiciled within the county of such governing board whose bid does not exceed a sum equal to three percent (3%) greater than the price or cost for such vehicles. In the event said county does not have an authorized motor vehicle dealer said board, may, in like manner, receive and accept bids from motor vehicle dealers in any adjoining county. No purchase of school bus chassis or service vehicle shall be valid unless the purchase is made according to statutory bidding and licensing requirements.

Should you have any questions regarding approved firms, prices or bidding procedures, please do not hesitate to contact the Division of Pupil Transportation at (601) 359-1028.
