The Mississippi Department of Education along with the North Mississippi Education Consortium will be offering free regional trainings on the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards (MS CCRS) for Science in the Oxford and Tupelo areas for grades 7-8 and Biology in May, June and July. These sessions, entitled Digging Deeper into the MS CCRS for Science, will include an introduction of the 2018 Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards for Science. An overview of the organization of the standards with an explanation of the new components used in the writing of the document will be included as teachers compare the previous framework with the new state standards. In addition, an in-depth approach to interpreting the MS CCRS for Science will allow teachers to explore new performance objectives along with the science and engineering practices. Teachers will view a model lesson to gain knowledge of how to develop other lessons using the 5 E lesson plan model while incorporating the new standards. CEUs will be available.
In addition, the Grenada School District will be hosting a regional training on Interpreting the MS CCRS for Science for teachers in grades 6-8. This training is a follow-up to the initial standards overview and will lead teachers through developing lessons using the new science standards.
