K-3 Screener Funds Draw Down

Greetings Superintendents:

The Mississippi State Board of Education voted on June 20, 2019 to begin reimbursement for the K-3 Literacy Screeners purchased for the 2018-2019 school year. In April 2018 the SBE approved methodology to award formula grant dollars to school districts and Early Learning Collaborative lead partners for Pre-K to 3rd grade literacy screeners. [Goals 1, 3, and 5 – MBE Strategic Plan] Therefore, each school district will be reimbursed via a grant contract for the cost of their screeners at a cost of no more than $9.50 per student. Funds will be awarded based on the following methodology:

Per-pupil grant awards will be based upon enrollment in Pre-K to 3rd grade on October 1 of the prior school year.

                         ____Funds available         =   Per-Pupil Amount

                        Pre-K to 3rd Enrollment

 Per-Pupil Amount   x   PK-to-3rd-Grade Enrollment   =   Allocation

The MDE budget office will work with your financial office to assist in this reimbursement request.  Please note that it is important that financial officers monitor the budgets and expend funds in a timely fashion. All funds must be requested and drawn down for SY18-19 by July 12, 2019.

You may access your grant allocation award letters, and the grant packet through the district SharePoint Access/K3 Screeners Portal or at https://districtaccess.mde.k12.ms.us/districts/Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx.

Districts may contact Melissa Beck at MBeck@mdek12.org for questions concerning SharePoint file locations or reimbursements.
