Engaging High School Students 2019-2020 Workshops

AUDIENCE:

High School Math Teachers, Administrators, Mathematics Instructional Coaches

DESCRIPTION:

The Center for Mathematics and Science Education will be hosting series of workshop at Ocean Springs High Schools to explore ways to engage high school students in the mathematical practices. During each session, participants will explore what each practice looks like in the secondary classroom and engage in content related tasks that can be implemented with students. Join us for one session or join us for all!

  • August 2, 2019 – Problem Solving and Precision
    This session will focus mathematical practices 1 & 6
    -#1 Make Sense of Problems & Persevere in Solving Them
    -#6 Attend to Precision
  • October 22, 2019 – Reasoning & Justifying
    This session will focus on mathematical practices 2 & 3
    -#2 Reasoning Abstractly & Quantitatively
    -#3 Construct Viable Arguments & Critique the Reasoning of Others
  • January 3, 2020 – Tools & Modeling
    This session will focus on mathematical practices 4 & 5
    -#4 Use Appropriate Tools Strategically
    -#5 Modeling with Mathematics
  • March 18, 2020 – Structure & Repeated Reasoning
    This session will focus on mathematical practices 7 & 8
