2017 GIS Competition for Middle and High School

Deadline for submitting maps: April 28


  • Middle Grades (4th-8th)                      
  • High School (9th-12th)

Who is eligible: All Mississippi public, private, or homeschooled students are eligible to enter the contest. Maps can be submitted individually or as a team of two students.

ArcGIS Online Requirement: You must use ArcGIS Online to create an original story map that spotlights our state. See the Esri Story Map Gallery for examples click here.

ArcGIS Online is available to any K-12 school in the United States free of charge from Esri:

To sign up for a free ArcGIS Online school organization account click here. Your final map must be created using the school organization account. You may not use a public account.

Prizes: MGA judges will select five maps from each division as the state winners. Each winning entry will receive $100 monetary award.  Winning entries will be entered in the ArcGIS Online U.S. School Competition 2017 where they will compete for a travel grant provided by Esri to attend the Esri Education GIS Conference (“EdUC”) in July of 2017.
